Quarter-Finals

 Gladiators (11-11,  #6) vs. Ball Whackers (14-8,  #3)
Skinny:    The Ball Whackers, who  were having a fantastic season until they dropped their last four, slipped to 3rd place, and lost their cushy first-round bye.  The reward is facing a G-Man team with little to lose and one that has  posed problems from them in the regular season.    The Gladiators make their inaugural post-season appearance with a strong batting order featuring Vlad Guerrero, Manny Ramirez, Jeff Bagwell and a short but solid pitching staff. The 'Whackers will counter will a solid line-up (Sosa, Eric Chavez, Cliff Floyd) that features little depth on the hitting side but a deep pitching staff.   Key players to watch:   Ball Whackers... Sosa, neck and Morris, DL.   Glads:  Mussina, which one will show up?

Last Ten:            Ball Whackers:   6-4         Gladiators:   4-6

Quarter-Finals

Ludville 9 (10-12,  #5) vs. Ruby's Raiders (15-7,  #4)
Skinny:  Ludville Nine makes their second consecutive appearance in the big dance but things have not been well of late. The team dropped three of their last four in a big way. L9 features a terrific O-lineup that just hasn't been hitting lately.  They remain the league leaders in hitting but, after spending most of the season with a .300+ Team BA, the team hasn't hit .300 in a week for the last six weeks.   If L9 hits they are very tough.  If they don't, they can be had.

The Raider's on the other hand are a pleasant surprise in their rookie season.  Randy Johnson was nabbed with the No. 2 pick and and hasn't disappointed.  The Raiders feature a balanced team with a quality in in both pitching and hitting but the depth would have to be considered suspect.  Still, this team has put together a 15-7 season, finished with 8-1 record down the stretch.   Do they have the horses to 'win it all in their first year in the league?"

Season Series:
  Split.    Week  3:  Ludville Nine  16,  Ruby's Raiders 5              Week 14:    Ruby's Raiders 13, Ludville Nine 9

vs Top-6:
Ruby's Raiders:     3-7,  .300           81-130-29  .398
Ludville 9:              2-8,  .200           96-111-33  .469

Last Ten:          Ruby's Raiders:   8-2         Ludville 9:   4-6
